America Needs to Be Revived: Moving Beyond Lukewarm Christianity
In a time when our nation seems to be at a crossroads, we face a critical decision as the church: will we get back up or continue to slumber? The reality is that America doesn't just need revival—she needs to be revived. There's a significant difference between the two.
What Does It Mean to Be Revived?
To be revived means to be restored to life, to consciousness, to regain life, to give new strength and energy. America needs to be reborn, restored, and regain strength. It's not just about revival—it's about being revived or she will die.
America went to sleep a long time ago. So long, in fact, that she's in a coma. But there are signs of awakening. Across the United States, there are embers—some bright, some barely flickering—but they're there. A voice is awakening. A sleeping giant has awakened. A roar is rising.
Why Have We Become Lukewarm?
We've lost the taste of desperation in America. Even our understanding of poverty is skewed when compared to third-world countries. When you become this comfortable, it's easy to think you don't actually need the Lord.
We've become lukewarm because:
We're afraid of hurting people's feelings
We've prioritized comfort over conviction
We've traded the eternal Kingdom of God for the temporary American Dream
We've allowed sin to remain hidden rather than bringing it to light
The Counterfeit American Dream
The American Dream has become a counterfeit of God's true promise of abundant life in Christ (John 10:10). It keeps believers distracted, chasing status instead of advancing God's kingdom.
What the American Dream Promises vs. What God Promises
The American Dream says:
Work hard and pull yourself up by your bootstraps
You can have it all: money, property, reputation, success
Your identity is in what you own
God says:
Provision comes through relationship
Purpose is found in Christ, not possessions
Security is in Him alone
Our inheritance is eternal, not material
Many of us have traded the eternal Kingdom of God for the temporary American Dream without even realizing it. We've disguised lukewarmness as the American Dream.
What Does Revelation Say About Lukewarmness?
Revelation 3:15-16 warns: "Because you are lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth." This is serious. We want the platform without the pain, the microphone without the mess. We want to be on fire on Sunday but silent midweek until something goes wrong.
How Do We Move Beyond Lukewarmness?
1. Repent Deeply
We need to repent to our "absolute toenails." Repent personally and on behalf of our nation. This is what 2 Chronicles 7:14 is talking about: "If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
2. Pray for Exposure
Ask God to reveal the enemy's strategies. We need a spirit of discernment. We need to be on our faces, in our Bibles, journaling, and having private time with the Lord.
3. Become Like Caleb
When the spies were sent to scout the Promised Land, most saw giants and obstacles. But Caleb said, "We can take them." We need to believe we can take down what God calls us to. We need to reclaim territory from darkness.
4. Let Go of the Past
We must say "rest in peace" to:
Our plans and fleshly desires
The American Dream
Worrying about offending people
The way things used to be
Some of us are still stuck in 2020 or earlier traumas. We need to mourn what was lost, but then move forward.
An Appeal to Heaven
When America stood outnumbered, outgunned, and outmanned during its founding, God was our only chance—and we prevailed. Here we are again, surrounded by darkness, but the answer hasn't changed. It's time for another appeal to heaven.
We can't rely on political figures. Our faith and support must be in God first. But we have to play our part. A movement requires movement—it's the first part of the word.
Life Application
It's time to ask yourself some hard questions:
Is Jesus' blood truly enough for you? Does your life reflect this belief?
Are you living as a Kingdom citizen first, or has American patriotism become your primary identity?
What "giants" has God called you to face in this season?
What areas of lukewarmness do you need to repent of today?
This week, commit to one specific action that moves you from lukewarm to "red hot" for Jesus. Perhaps it's having a difficult conversation you've been avoiding, setting aside dedicated prayer time for our nation, or stepping out to reclaim territory the enemy has stolen.
Remember, God doesn't call you to live your dream—He calls you to die to yourself. Your dream house isn't a mansion on earth; it's a room in eternity that He's preparing for you. Your legacy isn't about your name in the world; it's about your name being written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
It's giant-killing season. What giant is God calling you to face?
