What Does It Mean to Be a Kingdom Ambassador?

Have you ever wondered what your true purpose is as a believer? What if understanding your identity as a Kingdom ambassador could transform how you approach every area of your life? Today, we're diving deep into what it means to represent heaven on earth and how this revelation can change everything.

Understanding Your True Identity

The biggest problem in the body of Christ today is that we don't realize who we are. We can quote scriptures about being "fearfully and wonderfully made," but if that truth only stays in our heads and never reaches our hearts, it's just fancy words with no eternal value.

According to 2 Corinthians 5:20, "Therefore, we are ambassadors in Christ as though God were making an appeal through us." The Message version puts it beautifully: "We are Christ's representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God's work of making things right between them."

This means when you speak, you're speaking for Christ himself. That should change how we communicate, shouldn't it?

What Is a Kingdom Ambassador?

An ambassador is a messenger, delegate, spokesman, evangelist, missionary, and emissary - someone acting on behalf of another person. But what does this look like practically?

Key Characteristics of Kingdom Ambassadors

Represents a King, Not Religion You represent the King of Kings, not a religious system. The body of Christ is an ecclesia - a governmental system, not man-made religion. We must understand that we're part of a government, not just a religious organization.

Carries a Message with Purpose You don't just exist to feel good about yourself. You export Kingdom culture wherever you go. Just like an American ambassador to France brings American culture, you bring Kingdom culture to this world.

Speaks Official Policy, Not Personal Opinion In our cancel culture world, it's easy to get caught up in sharing our personal opinions. But as ambassadors, we must ask: "What does the Kingdom of God say about this subject?" Your personal opinion is irrelevant if you don't have a word from God.

Why Your Perspective Must Shift

This World Is Not Your Home

Ephesians 2:6 tells us we are seated in heavenly places, meaning our homeland is heaven. We're here on assignment for a short time. When you see this world as your temporary assignment rather than your permanent home, everything changes.

You'll have different compassion for people who don't understand. You'll love your coworkers differently. You'll see your family members who don't know Christ with new eyes because you have the best good news they need to hear.

You're an Atmosphere Shifter

We exist to extend influence, not seek approval. We're called to make heaven crowded, not collect followers and likes. This means taking dominion and spreading the gospel rather than acting like the world around us.

The Biblical Mandate for Dominion

What Does "Taking Dominion" Really Mean?

Genesis 1:26-28 gives us the original mandate. God told humanity to "rule" (Hebrew: rada - to govern, dominate, reign, exercise authority) and "subdue" (Hebrew: kabash - to conquer, bring into bondage, force into submission) the earth.

This isn't about becoming farmers or literally tilling soil. It's about taking the concept and applying it to the world He's given us to rule and reign over. We're called to be a ruling priesthood.

Dominion vs. Dominionism

It's crucial to understand the difference:

  • Dominion: Biblical mandate of delegated authority under God

  • Dominionism: Modern political ideology seeking human-led control

Dominion stewards God's trust; Dominionism seeks control. Dominion reflects obedience; Dominionism reflects ambition. We're not called to control people - God gave us free will for a reason.

The Seven Mountains of Influence

There are seven spheres where people shape worldviews and values. As Kingdom ambassadors, we should be influencing these areas:

1. Government

Christians should be influencing political views and policies, not necessarily controlling, but having a voice in the conversation.

2. Education

Since prayer was removed from schools, we've largely abandoned this mountain. We should be on school boards, voting, and participating in educational decisions.

3. Business and Economy

Whether you own a business or work for someone else, you have opportunities to minister through your work ethic and character.

4. Arts and Entertainment

We need to support Christian artists and quality content that reflects Kingdom values rather than abandoning this sphere to secular influence.

5. Science and Medicine

We've largely abandoned this mountain, which is why certain policies were able to be implemented without significant Christian input.

6. Family

The family structure is under attack. We must establish godly principles in our own families first.

7. Church

This is one area we've maintained, but we can't just stay here while abandoning the other six mountains.

How to Bring Godly Influence

Through Influence, Not Control

Matthew 5:13-16 tells us to be salt and light. Salt preserves and adds flavor, but too much salt overpowers. Light reveals and guides, but too much light blinds. We must find the right balance.

Through Discipleship, Not Domination

Jesus said to make disciples of nations, not take them over (Matthew 28:19-20). We disciple systems by discipling people, not by tearing down their systems and forcing our way.

Through Spiritual Authority

Luke 10:19 gives us authority over the enemy, which equals dominion over spiritual darkness in every sphere. We push back darkness through righteousness and wisdom.

Life Application

This week, your challenge is to identify which of the seven mountains you're currently positioned in and begin operating as a Kingdom ambassador in that sphere. Stop seeing your workplace, school, or community involvement as separate from your faith - these are your mission fields.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Am I representing Kingdom culture in my daily interactions, or am I blending in with the world around me?

  • What specific sphere of influence has God positioned me in, and how can I better steward that assignment?

  • Am I speaking from Kingdom policy or personal opinion when discussing important issues?

  • How can I be salt and light without being overpowering or blinding to those around me?

Remember, you didn't come to church today just to be encouraged - you came to be commissioned. You're not going back to your regular life alone; you're going as a representative of heaven with all of heaven backing you. Your assignment is to carry Kingdom culture, righteousness, peace, truth, integrity, wisdom, and love into every single place God has positioned you.
