Walking Through the Fire: When God Clothes You in Power
In a world where the enemy seems to gain ground daily, there's a powerful truth that every believer needs to understand: we are not called to simply dodge the devil's attacks, but to walk through them clothed in the power of God.
What Does It Mean to Be Clothed in Power?
Many Christians misunderstand what happened at Pentecost. The common teaching suggests that Acts 2 was when the disciples first received the Holy Spirit. However, they had already received the Holy Spirit in John 20 when Jesus breathed on them and said, "receive the Holy Spirit." What happened at Pentecost was different - they were "clothed in power."
The Authority of Being Seated
When Jesus told the disciples to "wait" in Jerusalem, the Greek word used means "to be seated" - not passive waiting, but taking a position of authority. In biblical times, being seated represented authority and judgment. Jesus was positioning His followers to receive not just the Holy Spirit, but the power and authority that comes with their calling.
Why Does God Clothe Us in Power?
Protection from the Enemy's Irritation
The anointing oil that shepherds poured on sheep wasn't just ceremonial - it was protection. The oil prevented gnats and bugs from burrowing into the sheep's fur and causing irritation. Similarly, when God clothes us in power, He's providing protection from the enemy's attempts to irritate us out of our calling.
"'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.' - John 3:16" reminds us that God's heart is always protection and restoration, not condemnation.
Covering for Our Humanity
When Adam and Eve fell, God's first response wasn't wrath - it was clothing. He covered their shame because His heart was restoration. Being clothed in power doesn't make us perfect, but it does make us covered. God's anointing protects us while we grow and learn to walk in His purposes.
What Happens When You're Clothed in Power?
The Enemy Targets You
Here's a truth many don't want to hear: once the anointing of God lands on your life, there's a target on your back. Jesus experienced this immediately after His baptism. The Holy Spirit descended on Him like a dove, and the very next verse says the Spirit led Him into the wilderness to be tempted.
The enemy doesn't give up easily. After failing to tempt Jesus in the wilderness, Satan looked for "a more opportune time." That time came when Jesus showed up at church and proclaimed truth - and the congregation tried to throw Him off a cliff.
You Must Walk Through, Not Around
Jesus didn't defend Himself when the crowd wanted to throw Him off the cliff. He simply walked through them. This reveals a crucial principle: your breakthrough often requires walking through the opposition, not around it.
God didn't transport the Israelites to the other side of the Red Sea - they had to walk through it. The walls of water could have collapsed at any moment, but their breakthrough was in the walkthrough.
How Do You Respond to Attacks?
Don't Give the Enemy Victories
The enemy is skilled at setbacks and delays, but we don't have to give him victories. When David returned to find that enemies had stolen everything from him and his men, he didn't wallow in defeat. Instead, he encouraged himself in the Lord and said, "Let's go get our stuff back."
David and his men didn't just recover what was stolen - they took the spoils that their enemies had taken from other enemies. Instead of defeat and reduction, they experienced increase.
Sprint Through Your Struggles
Sometimes you don't have the luxury of slowly walking through difficulties. When you're called to help others through their struggles, you must sprint through your own challenges. This isn't about denying pain or difficulty - it's about not letting your struggles stop the advancement of God's kingdom through your life.
The Season We're In Now
From Waiting to Being Clothed
We are no longer in a season of waiting. We are in a season of being clothed in power. When government leaders call a nation to repentance and rededicate it to God, they lay the foundation for a great awakening. It's up to the church to grab hold of that foundation and build upon it.
More Than Moral - We're Called to More
God didn't send His Son to die just to teach us to be moral. He sent Him to teach us we could be more - to restore us back to the power of heaven operating on earth as He always intended.
Life Application
This week, stop trying to zigzag around the enemy's attacks and start walking through them clothed in God's power. Recognize that delays are not defeats, and false accusations are opportunities for God to demonstrate His favor on your life.
Ask yourself these questions:
Am I trying to dodge the enemy's attacks instead of walking through them in God's power?
Have I been settling for just being moral instead of pursuing the power of God?
What calling or assignment have I been avoiding because I'm afraid of the target it might put on my back?
Am I willing to pay the cost of being clothed in power, knowing it comes with both authority and opposition?
Remember, favor follows the faithful. God is looking for those willing to be stripped, to take the hits, to be humble, and to sacrifice for the advancement of His kingdom. When you're willing to walk through the fire clothed in His power, you don't just survive - you emerge with spoils from the enemy's camp and become a testimony of God's faithfulness to others facing their own battles.
The enemy may delay you, but if you refuse to give him access to your life and stay clothed in God's power, he cannot break you. Your breakthrough is in the walkthrough.
