Walking in God's Authority: From Hidden Season to Harvest
Have you ever received a prophetic word or felt God calling you to something, only to wonder when it will come to pass? Many believers struggle with the tension between receiving promises from God and waiting for the right timing to see them fulfilled. Understanding how to walk in divine authority while remaining under God's covering is crucial for every Christian's spiritual journey.
What Does It Mean to Stay "Covered" While Waiting?
When Mary received the angel's announcement about Jesus, Scripture tells us she "pondered these things in her heart." This wasn't passive waiting - it was active preparation in a hidden season. Just like Mary, we sometimes receive words, promises, or callings that aren't meant to be immediately revealed or acted upon.
Staying covered doesn't mean doing nothing. It means allowing God to prepare us in secret while we actively steward what He's given us. Many believers make the mistake of running ahead of God's timing, which can lead to disqualification - not because of character issues, but because they moved before the starting gun fired.
How Do We Prepare for Our Promises?
Preparation requires prophetic action. When Jesus cast demons into pigs, He was making a prophetic declaration about overthrowing Rome's spiritual authority. Though it would be 300 years before Christianity became Rome's religion, Jesus took prophetic action for a promise that wasn't yet birthed.
If you're pregnant, you don't wait until the baby arrives to prepare the nursery. Similarly, when God gives you a promise, you must prepare to receive it. This means developing the character, skills, and spiritual maturity needed to steward what's coming.
What Is True Spiritual Authority?
Authority comes from being "authorized" by heaven. Breaking down the word "authority," we find "author-it-y" - meaning we have the ability to author or write something into existence through God's power. Since Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith, we become co-authors with Him in bringing His kingdom to earth.
True authority operates when we combine God's heart with our authorized power. The world has learned to use authority without God's heart, leading to manipulation and self-promotion. But when we carry His heart and use our authority, we release transformation.
Why Does Submission Increase Authority?
Many believers resist submission because of past negative experiences with leadership. However, your past experiences don't give you permission to walk out of alignment with God's word. There's a difference between being cautious and being critical - you can reserve judgment while investigating without becoming cynical.
If you cannot sit under authority, you cannot properly exercise authority over others. Learning to submit to leaders, even when their methods differ from yours, teaches you how to lead others who will have different ideas than you. Your submission today increases your authority tomorrow.
How Do We Walk in Greater Authority?
Walking in authority requires understanding that we have legal rights in the spiritual realm. God has given us dominion on earth and power of attorney to represent Him. However, this authority must be exercised with His heart, not for personal gain.
Authority also requires persistence. One minister prayed over a sick man for five days straight until healing manifested. Many believers give up after five minutes when they don't see immediate results. True authority means contending until breakthrough comes, understanding that spiritual battles may be happening behind the scenes.
What Role Do Angels Play in Our Authority?
Angels are assigned to work with believers who walk in their authority. When you respond to God's promptings and take spiritual action, your angels move in lockstep with you. However, when you remain passive or ignore God's leading, your angels become inactive - not because they're unable to help, but because they're waiting for you to engage.
Some believers have angels that appear bored because they're not being given assignments. When you step into your authority and begin decreeing God's will, you activate angelic assistance in your life and circumstances.
How Does Our Mindset Affect Our Authority?
Studies show that people who do manual labor but don't consider it exercise see different results than those who view their work as a workout. Simply changing their mindset about the same activity led to fat loss and muscle gain. This demonstrates the power of belief in creating physical change.
Similarly, when we change our mindset about our spiritual authority and begin believing we can decree things and see them manifest, our spiritual reality changes. Authority looks like grabbing God's heart, changing our mind about what's possible, and contending until breakthrough comes.
What Does It Mean to Author Heaven's Stories?
There's a book being written about your life in heaven, documenting everything Jesus does through you. When you walk in authority and impact others for the kingdom, you're authoring pages in heaven's annals. The goal should be to have so many kingdom impacts that you'll need eternity to read about all the chain reactions your obedience created.
Before writing earthly books about theology, you should first write heavenly books through your testimony. Your lived experience validates your spiritual authority and gives weight to your words.
Life Application
This week, identify one area where God has given you a promise or calling that you've been waiting to see fulfilled. Instead of remaining passive, take one prophetic action that prepares you for that promise. This might mean developing a skill, starting to pray differently, or positioning yourself to steward what's coming.
Change your confession about your situation. Instead of saying "I'm waiting for God to move," begin declaring "I am preparing for my promise and taking authority over everything that stands between me and God's will for my life."
Ask yourself these questions:
What promises has God given me that I haven't prepared for?
Am I being cautious or critical toward spiritual authority?
What prophetic actions can I take this week to prepare for my promise?
How can I change my mindset to align with God's heart and walk in greater authority?
What assignments can I give my angels by stepping into my spiritual authority?
Remember: you have the authority to decree and see, to believe and receive. Don't let another week pass with bored angels and unfulfilled promises. Step into your authority while staying under God's covering, and watch heaven respond to your faith-filled actions.
